Where Do You Get Your Inspiration?
Where does your inspiration come from? Where do you get your strength, the deepening of faith or courage, the means of building a better life? Seems there are so many voices calling to us- shouting at us – pushing and pulling for our attention.
This morning, I’ve been thinking about all that noise. All the pop-ups, so to speak, that vie for my attention – my thoughts- my emotions. Because I needed to quiet all that noise inside, I did what I often do [aside form prayer] and took to the Internet. Finding the right quotes and videos brought that sweet quiet to my mind and sunshine to the heart. So I wanted to share with you.
Each of us wants to be the best we can be. We want to build successful lives and help others. We want to find joy and shed the shackles of our annoying weaknesses. We want to make the world a better place, and that starts by making a better ‘us’. We really are amazing. We just tend to forget that.
And some days are not as easy as others. Some moments bring heartache or darkness or questions that are hard to answer.
With the ups and downs, the imperfections and traits that may cause us sadness – even, for some self-hatred, there is a better way. With it comes the letting go of So Much Ugliness or Fear or Sorrow. And instead, we find Beauty and Joy and Goodness.
Here are a few things that bring perspective. When I’m having a bit of a tough time, these kinds of helps are heaven sent. I hope it helps you, or someone you love, also!
Most of you have seen this fellow before. I return to watch him on occasion. Because he always inspires me and really does help put my own issues into a better perspective. What an inspiration!
One thing that almost always helps me feel better? Music. The other day I came across this video and chose to spend a couple of minutes watching. I’m so glad I did… These young men are really good! Better though, is the lesson I could apply. Having only been a ‘group’ for a month, their ability to work together was tremendous. It reminded me that, when we want to, we can work together and create beautiful things in a very short time. Using our individual gifts and sharing together with the next person’s, we can create – I’m being metaphorical here – beautiful music. In reality, we can do that in all sorts of wonderful ways. Take a listen:
Now, there are some times when I can’t wait to get down on my knees and offer a prayer. But I really don’t know quite what to say. That’s when I need to remember that He already knows what I need. I can just let all the feelings and words tumble out, over one another, knowing my Father in Heaven knows just what I’m trying to say – even when I don’t. There is great security and peace in the knowing. And inspiration comes.
Often, my inspiration comes from my family members, from good neighbors and friends. I can’t even count all the kindnesses that have been extended to me and my family by caring friends. I will forever feel indebted for calls, notes, food, prayers, Just The Right little gift that seems heaven- sent. I suppose, in real terms, it was. One of my children- or grandchildren – might sometimes say exactly the right thing I needed to hear, or share a photo via text that lifts my spirits… or causes me to laugh out loud. Laughter, after all, really is a good medicine!
Maybe it’s must my imagination, but laughing together seems to bind us. I love my husband even more for all the laughter we share. It’s a good gift!
So – wherever you find your inspiration, I’m grateful. In a world with much beauty but a lot of Hard, we should grab it wherever we can. And celebrate it. And grow it. It seems to grow the goodness in us.
And goodness matters.
