What Matters Most
I recently saw a quote that I thought was both simple and profound. It struck me as one of those things that matter most. It was simple in that I thought, “Wow! Why didn’t I think of that?” Powerful in that it got me to take action right then and there – to make an important change in my life. It’s all about how I approach my daily activities. And focus them on what matters most. The quote was:
Change your To – Do list into a What – Matters – Most list
Probably everyone reading this has, at one time or another, made a list of things they needed or wanted to get done in some space of time, whether it was the next hour, that day, or that week. Right? We may have even put a star or a number next to the ones that we knew we needed to get done. At least, the ones that need doing first. But there’s something about changing that “To Do” list into a “What Matters Most” list that makes all the difference in the world! It’s all a matter of perspective.
Hyrum W. Smith has said,
The choices we make are a matter of deciding what really matters most to us.
I happened to notice that the items I started adding to my “What Matters Most” list were of greater value to me, thus my time would be spent achieving things that had greater meaning to me and the ones I love. Because my family really loves our Savior and our Heavenly Father, our family, and our friends, I started focusing more on the people I love most. It has been a great experience, so far!
Forest E. Witcraft offered this advice:
A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the car I drove. But the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.
When we do the things that matter most – like spending quality time with our children or our grandchildren – we strengthen the ties that bind us together and enrich our lives. Our lives grow in value and integrity regardless of wealth or status in life, or the seeming lack thereof.
There are so many ways we can make this What – Matters – Most list enrich our lives. And it’s so easy to do. Let’s all give it a try!
