A Christmas Gift – Humor is Good!

A Christmas Gift - Humor is Good!

One good Christmas gift we can give ourselves and the world around us? The gift of good humor.

I have laughed my way through a lot of life, so far… Having learned it is more productive, more effective, and more fun than weeping or wringing my hands. But I’ve done plenty of that, too. It’s just that the years have taught me to wring and weep less [unless they're tears of joy and tenderness] and laugh a lot more often.

It is in my …

A Few Days of Christmas – Wise Men Seek

A Few Days of Christmas - Wise Men Seek

With Christmas being only a few days away [argghh.. time does seem to 'fly on wings of lightning' at this time of year], I’d like to take a cue from an embroidered sign that has been in my home for many years. I put it up each holiday season. This is what it says:

Wise Men Still Seek Him

Over the next few days, I’ll share a few ideas that have been sitting in my heart, stirring around, as ways to better seek Him. Daily. …

Football And Family – A Nice Twist!

Football And Family - A Nice Twist!

What a nice twist! While some focus on family, others on the food and Macy’s parade, Thanksgiving means – to some – football. Here’s a delightful news story about pro football coach who stresses the importance of family as priority.  It’s a good little article that made me smile… and the principle is not at all small.  Seems perfectly as we approach Thanksgiving. In a perfect world, we’d combine food, traditions,  family, friends,  football …. any of the things that make us happy.  But it’s …

Of May Day and Yesterdays

Of May Day and Yesterdays

Today is May Day. Makes me think of the yesterdays when May Day was full of traditions and fun. Some of you probably don’t even know there were Big Goings On back ‘in the May Day’….. just reminds me of how many May Days I’ve seen. Kind of a lot.

So many memories to draw on. One May Day, we were living in Kauai and I got to be the leader of the May Pole dance. Ribbons were tied to a flag pole and there …

I Finally Undecorated the Christmas Tree

I finally undecorated the Christmas tree. The tree, in all its natural, fake wonder, is still standing regally in the front room, but all its decorations are off and put away in containers. The Santa collection is packed up, and all the other holiday ‘stuff’ is out of the way.  Yeehaw.

I love putting the tree up. It’s just the taking-it-down part that seems hard for me. One year I left it up so long that my daughter said we might as well switch out …

The Gift of Good News

It’s interesting that with the economy in the basement, and so many people out of work or barely making ends meet, generosity and charitable offering seems in full bloom.

I’ve enjoyed the gift of Good News several times in just the last few days:

1. Just this very day I noticed a woman stop by a Salvation Army station, complete with that smiling volunteer ringing the bells. She dropped a healthy amount of money in the bucket before she went her way into the store. …

Tis the Season for Mood and Food

Tis the season. Parties, events, traditions that include lots of food. Is there a tie between our mood and food? Apparently so. This is what I learned from reading an article about our personality and weight gain. Who knew?

A study that the National Institute on Aging recently concluded shows that impulsive folks weigh more than twenty pounds more than cautious folks. And angry people gain ten pounds more than happier ones. Moody souls gain more weight than their steady minded friends. Interesting stuff. Is …
