GPS For The Soul

A little GPS for the soul might be in order these days. With as much stress, business, here – and – there, running around, and anxiety as there is in the world, we may benefit from a few guideposts to keep us centered.  To keep us calm.  To keep us healthy and happy.

What helps you calm down and breathe more easily? If you have any tips, please send them in. We can share with everyone else. And all be better for it.

Here are a few ideas I’ve found from the Internet, from talking with friends, and from trying to keep myself focused on goodness while dealing with life’s stressors:

BAKE

Happy Baking!

Happy Baking!

Does this sound weird? It would have to me, only a year ago. But, lo and behold, making bread turns out to be a relaxing, fun, positive thing to do. Not only for feeding my family, but for feeding my soul. Most of the work isn’t even work…. with the right tools and machines [thank you, Bosch], it’s a cinch. And it’s so opposite of the Running – Around – Like – A – Chicken!  If you’re interested, let me know and I’ll send the recipe. If I can do this, anyone can. Trust me.

READ

Books Are Good!

Books Are Good!

Poems or magazines, novels, or quotations. Because I love architecture, I even have been known to grab an Architectural Digest or a book of home plans and read through as thought it was a book. What can I say…. it’s fun and low key.  Being the quotaholic that I am, it is always delightful to read old ones, ponder over one I’ve known since my youth, or delight in a new one. It gets the mind off crazy stuff and calms the soul.

NATURE BREAKS

Goodness of Nature

Goodness of Nature

Taking nature breaks is wonderful for the heart and soul! Whether you can wander in your own backyard, in a nearby garden, make a trip to the shore, or hike a lovely mountain path, it’s great therapy. Sometimes, taking photographs makes it even nicer.  I love the art of taking pictures.  I’m not so good at it, but have appreciation for the real photographers in the world.  And snapping my own allows me to focus even more steadily on the goodness that God had provided for us in this world.

PRAY

Prayer

Prayer

Prayer is the soul’s sincere desire.  That’s the title of one of my favorite hymns. And the principle of prayer is, for me, a life saver. I know there is a God who loves me, hears me, and loves me. Knowing this, and going to Him in prayer, I get a better perspective of life- even with I’m in the middle of very hard stuff. Prayer becomes a wide angle lens, allowing more light in, and granting a better – and calmer- view.

SERVE

Desire to Serve

Desire to Serve

Doug Adams spoke a great thought:

To give real service you must add something which cannot be bought or measured with money, and that is sincerity and integrity.

Doing service of any sort, when it’s not from the heart, misses the mark.  When the heart is involved, offering loving assistance is limitless in its ability to bless the life of the giver and receiver. It requires desire. And it offers much goodness.

Yep.  Many folks use GPS to get where they’re going along the roads.  A little GPS for the soul,  on a daily basis, could really help us end up where we want to end up… and have more joy in the journey more as we go.   That’s good stuff.

And goodness matters!

Goodness Matters - Vickey Pahnke Taylor

I've noticed that when I'm looking for good things, they are more easily spotted. Even among crummy or mean things, there are little gems of good & kindness. If you've seen something 'good' or helpful this week, will you please post about it? If not here, on your own page. it's a simple way to make FB a happier media spot/ & might be exactly what someone needs to read as a lift for their heart. <3 ... See MoreSee Less
