Good Ideas, Keen Minds, and Harnessing Power

Good Ideas Lead to Lots of Goodness

Hard times often bring out the best in people. When you gather a few girls with good ideas, keen minds, and imagination — You figure ways of harnessing power in unique ways.  This is such a cool piece of news!

What these girls did, after Superstorm Sandy ripped New Jersey, New York, and so much of the Eastern seaboard of the USA apart, is amazing.  Weird. Out of the box thinking. And really good!

This information came from a site called good.is.  Check this out –

Four young girls came up with a pee- powered generator. Yes – you read correctly.

During the Maker Faire Africa in Lagos, Nigeria on November 5th and 6th, fourteen – year – olds Duro – Aina Adelbola, Akindele Abiola, Faleke Oluwatoyin, and fifteen year old Bello Eniola prsented their amazing concept:

Accoring to The Next Web, it works like this:

  • Urine is put into an electrolytic cell, which cracks the urea into nitrogen, water, and hydrogen
  • Hydrogen goes into a water filter for purification, which then gets pushed into the gas cylinder
  • The gas cylinder pushes hydrogen into a cylinder of liquid borax, which is used to remove the moisture from the hydrogen gas
  • This purified hydrogen gas is pushed into the generator
  • One liter of urine gives you six hours of electricity

What?? A few trips to the bathroom, and we can harness several hours of electricity??  Amazing. Innovating. Brilliant.

A little bit yukky sounding, I must admit. But brilliant. Basic needs taken care of by way of … basic needs! Ha! I love it.

Hats off to these young ladies. And to those who helped them pull off their idea.  And to media that share this kind of – bottom line goodness.
Goodness matters!
